Worriedaboutsatan – Heart Monitor

Brand new material from Worriedaboutsatan is always welcome around these parts so the super limited single (100 only) Heart Monitor, which you can grab if you’re quick here, picks up where the fantastic Arrivals left off. Swooping postrock addled minimal techno infused beauty.

The intro ‘Eyes closed’ surges into the main event ‘Heart Monitor’ with ease, a track which sees Worriedaboutsatan use the vocal talents of Greg Hoepffner who emotes the coda, ‘give me your heavy heart’ in a sweet gentle tone over a bed of bubbling beats and bleep that echo the titles message, the wide screen bass tones add another layer of emotion to the record, subtly bringing a mysterious physical feeling into the mix that pulls you with it sucking you into the track. Pulsing electronics and slow progressing melodies make this a tender slice of electronica that just keeps building subtly and aches with raw emotion. This track is a personal favourite for sure.

The single keeps the theme going with ‘Respirator’ with eerie loops of echo drenched breathing and rumbling tones pulsating under emotional female vocals and distant guitars before it all rolls off into nothing. You’ll also find her.eyes.like_static remixing ‘Heart Monitor’ and they do a fine job just like they did on the Arrivals Remixed compilation to ‘You’re In My Thoughts’. They take the original’s tender emotion and flip it into a mass outpour of abrasive, passionate energy. Distorting the melodies and making it screech with raw slow and deliberate power.

It comes in a beautifully put together package with the CD, which also includes the stems for you remixers out there, a badge, cloth print and a page from a 70s cardiology book, which is an interesting read. Worriedaboutsatan keep dropping moving slices of postrock/minimal/electronica that blur the lines of those genres with ease. Heart Monitor is one to treasure.

Worriedaboutsatan – I Am a Crooked Man / Evil Dogs

Yet more slabs of Satan come my way from the Worriedaboutsatan camp and I’m far from worried about what they have to offer. The album Arrivals is shaping up to be a cracker, so far I’ve heard 3 finished tracks, these two I’m posting about and the title track Arrivals.

I Am a Crooked Man is a beautiful melancholic yet uplifting minimal monster with chords that shoot right through you and remind me of some Detroit techno of the ye olde days. The bass is huge and the kick’n’clicks really hit you and take it all forward. This would fit into a DJ set as much as an ambient electronic post rock set as it builds slowly into some epic guitar noise, before descending into fireworks and explosions that crack, fizz and pop all over the shop.

Evil Dogs was always one of my favourites from the early demo stages, its an echo drenched ambient brooder. By the time the high hat style sounds and throbbing kick come in your mesmerized and then you get some massive bass, that makes my speakers really work for it… cold air streams out of them and a faint smell of warm wires hits my face.

Worriedaboutsatan – Arrivals (new version)

The wonderful Worriedaboutsatan have been in the studio again working on a new album, which is going well I hear. They decided to give me their new version of Arrivals to have a listen to. I have heard a previous version on a Demo I got sent and that was a sweet little number check out my review here…

This new version is a beautifully textured epic and soothing listen, much like the demo I heard but a better more finished mix. To quote the band them selves, ‘Listen out at 3minutes 30seconds (ish), there's some crushing guitar work played by Gav using his magic bow’ and it is indeed some epic magical sounds that send a spooky little shiver down my spine, especially when the bass kicks in again with the magic bow sounds. The new album, which they hope to have finished for November, will also be called Arrivals, which makes this the title track. You can hear it for your self on the myspace player.

In other Worriedaboutsatan news: they have remixed the excellent Maybeshewill’s Takotsubo. This can also be heard on their myspace. It’s a texture driven minimal influenced beast that they do so well.
